Here at The Marlow Language Centre we have 30 years’ experience of helping companies develop their employees’ language skills.

How we work

Operating out of our headquarters in the picturesque town of Marlow in Buckinghamshire we conduct intensive and non-intensive English and foreign language training at our Centre in Marlow or on your premises in London and the Thames Valley. We’re currently conducting business language courses on site for clients based in:

We’ve put together many language training programmes for a variety of companies. We can cater to individuals or groups, and we can teach your staff at our premises or at yours. We can put together a proposal for helping your people make targeted improvements to their language skills – and we understand your budgetary constraints.

Assessment

Following the consultation we offer prospective students the option to take a 60/90-minute assessment class. This can be on a one-to-one, one-to-two or group basis. In this session attendees’ speaking, writing and listening skills in their chosen language will be assessed by one of our qualified language trainers. After the assessment lesson we’ll produce a report in the form of a course proposal detailing attendees’ strengths and weaknesses. Suggested areas for improvement and a plan of action with quantifiable course goals are included within the report. We’ll also recommend how many hours of tuition will be required for attendees to achieve the course objective stated during the consultation.

There is no obligation to book a course following the assessment.

Course delivery

Should you decide to book a course following the assessment lesson we’ll propose that you commit to a specific amount of tuition hours (detailed in the assessment report and course proposal). Delegates can take classes on a one-to-one or one-to-two basis, or in group of three to ten learners.

Whatever the class size, there’s a choice of intensive or non-intensive tuition. In either case, delegates have total flexibility as to the start date of their language programme and preferred days and times of the classes themselves.

  • Non-intensive: one or two 90-minute sessions per week at times to suit – at your site or at our HQ in Marlow
  • Intensive: anything from 2 to 8 hours a day over a period of one, two, three or four weeks – at your site or at our HQ in Marlow

All the English and foreign language business courses we offer are conducted by professional, native teachers, many of whom have experience of working in industry.

Relocation programme

We specialise in intensive and non-intensive English and foreign language programmes for employees and their spouses who are being relocated overseas. We also run intensive and non-intensive EFL (English as a foreign language) programmes for employees and their families who have relocated to the UK from abroad and need help with their English to ease the transition into an English-speaking environment.

Case study: The European Tour

In January 2015 we were contacted by the European Tour regarding business French tuition for approximately 20 employees in preparation for the prestigious Ryder Cup, due to take place at le Golf National de Paris in September 2018.

The list of prospective delegates comprised people from various functions including the:

Consultation

Two of our directors visited the client’s office to give a detailed presentation of what MLC could offer and at the same time ask questions and conduct an initial assessment of European Tour’s needs.

Assessment

A member of the MLC French teaching team attended European Tour’s HQ in Virginia Water to carry out 60-minute assessments of all the employees who would benefit from French language training. The assessment sessions were used to ascertain the current level of each individual in terms of their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.

We talked with all the delegates individually, questioning them about their role in the company and what tasks they would be asked to perform in the French language in the run-up to the Ryder Cup itself in Paris 2018. The assessment sessions also gave delegates the opportunity to say what they were hoping to achieve from their proposed course, and to set goals.
