Marlow has a busy high street, which boasts over 20 traditional English pubs, as well as a large number of cafes, bars and restaurants. It is also great for shopping with a wide range of shops including, clothes shops, book shops, antique shops, gift shops, specialist food stores and exclusive boutiques.
For sports enthusiasts Marlow is home to a number of sports centres including the Court Garden Leisure and Swimming complex, and Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre, which was formerly the training ground of the England football team. There are also many golf courses in the surrounding area.
Marlow is 25 mins from historic Windsor, 40 mins from Oxford and 15 mins from Henley on Thames. Trips can therefore be organised to Windsor, where you can visit the famous Windsor Castle and surrounding area. You can also easily visit Oxford, the home of England’s most prestigious University. Henley is only a short bus ride away and is home to Britain’s most famous Royal Regatta and Rowing Museum.
Marlow is great for Nature enthusiasts and is known as the Gateway to the Chiltern Hills. There are many interesting walks along the Thames and in and around Marlow and just a few kilometres to the west, in Hambleden you will find some of most strikingly beautiful countryside in all of England. When Hollywood made the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in 1968 starring Dick Van Dyke they scoured locations all over England to find the perfect English village and decided that Hambleden was the best candidate. It is surrounded by mature beech woods, rolling pastures & unspoilt chalk valleys teeming with wildlife such as muntjac deer, pheasants and numerous birds of prey. For those that want to get a real taste of English country life a visit is a must!
Marlow is also 1 hour from London with a train service which operates every hour. It is also 20 minutes from Heathrow airport.
